Meehan Applauds House Passage of Bill to Ban Synthetic Drugs

Statement

Date: Dec. 8, 2011
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Drugs

U.S. Representative Patrick Meehan (PA-07) today applauded House passage of H.R. 1254, the Synthetic Drug Control Act.

"As a former prosecutor, I have seen the devastating effects these drugs have on our communities -- drugs that are extremely dangerous, yet are assumed to be safe because they are sold legally," said Meehan. "It is under that false sense of security that so many young people are experimenting with these potentially lethal drugs. There has been a dramatic rise in synthetic drug use and we must put an end to it. I am a proud cosponsor of this bill and applaud my colleagues for passing it, which will ban these substances nationwide."
